My parents were both born and raised in Portugal and immigrated to Canada in the 1960s. They were instrumental within the Portuguese community here in the Toronto area. When I was growing up, attending Portuguese events and supporting the community was an integral part of our lives. We also had the pleasure of traveling to Portugal every summer to spend time with family and friends and I got to immerse myself from a young age. It taught me so much about Portuguese culture and traditions.
Over the years, as my parents got older and I got married, life got in the way. We were no longer as involved in the community and I lost touch with a lot of people, places and things. When my parents passed, I wanted to honour them and everything they had instilled in me about our culture.
For a long time now I’ve had a vision of creating a space for those that have lost touch with our heritage and culture and want to reconnect. Beyond that, I have a passion for sharing all things Portuguese with those who are curious about our culture and want to experience all it has to offer! This is a place to uncork all of the wonderful food, drink, traditions, music, wares and so much more.
What to Expect
I’ve created Portugal Uncorked so that I can share the love and excitement about Portugal as well as local Canadian businesses that are Portuguese owned and/or sell items imported from Portugal. Thank you for coming along on this journey with me to “uncork” all there is to learn, appreciate and experience when it comes to Portuguese culture! Vem comigo e obrigada,
